Diwali is on 8 November this year, so there’s still time to think about your hair before the celebrations begin.
If you’re looking for ideas, we keep coming back to three looks: soft waves, a low bun with a bit of texture, and a braid. They’re all easy to make your own. You can keep them simple or dress them up with flowers or an accessory.

Soft Waves

Waves can feel dressed up without looking too formal. Wear them loose with an Indo-Western outfit, or sweep one side back to show off earrings. A smooth, reflective finish gives the look extra polish; softer movement keeps it from feeling stiff.
Glossy finishes and natural movement are also appearing in 2026 hair trend coverage, though that doesn’t tell us what Chennai clients are booking. Vogue India’s 2026 hair trend guide points to both.
A Low Bun

A low bun works well when you want your earrings, necklace or outfit to stand out. It doesn’t have to be perfectly smooth. A few softer pieces around the face, or a little texture in the bun, can make it feel less formal.
Flowers can look beautiful with a bun, too. If you’re planning to wear jasmine or another accessory, bring it along so your stylist can see how it works with the rest of your look.
A Braid

A braid can be worn over one shoulder or worked into a bun. Either way, it adds detail without needing much else. You can keep it neat or let it sit a little looser, depending on your outfit and what feels comfortable.
Choose a look you'll enjoy wearing!
Think about what you’ll be wearing, where you’re going and how long you’ll be out. If you’ll be moving between events, or spending time outdoors, you may prefer a style that’s partly pinned back. Chennai’s humidity can affect how hair holds, so let your stylist know where you’ll be and how long you need the style to last.
Your hair matters just as much as the outfit. Bring a photo of the look you like, and tell your stylist what you usually find difficult—whether that’s keeping curls in place, managing frizz or getting enough volume. They can suggest a version that works with your hair.
You don’t have to follow a trend to look festive. Pick a style that feels like you, and that you’ll be happy wearing all evening.
