Part 2 — The Treatments Explained
Part 1 gave us the basics: your hair can need moisture, strength, repair, smoother manageability or scalp care. Go back and read it if you haven't already.
Now let's get into the treatments themselves.
This is where things can get confusing. A salon menu can have ten or twenty treatments, and at first glance, some of them seem to be promising almost the same thing.
They aren't.
Some are designed for dry hair. Some for weakened or damaged hair. Some are about making your hair easier to manage. Others focus on the scalp. So rather than go through a long list of product names, let's look at them by what they're actually trying to achieve.

💧 When Your Hair Is Thirsty
Moisture & Hydration
Let's start with one of the most common problems we see: hair that has simply lost its softness.
It feels dry, looks dull, catches easily when you brush it and generally doesn't feel very nice to touch.
That doesn't always mean the hair is badly damaged. Sometimes it just needs a good dose of moisture and conditioning.
This is where treatments such as Schwarzkopf Express Spa, SP Intense Hydrating, Moroccan Oil Treatment and Redken Moisture Infusion come in. They're different treatments, but they all sit broadly in the moisture and conditioning space.
The right choice depends on how dry the hair is, what else you've done to it and how much time you want to spend on the treatment.
A quick Express Spa can be a nice pick when you want some immediate conditioning without turning it into a major salon appointment.
If your hair is consistently dry or difficult to manage, a more intensive treatment may make more sense.
And if the hair is also breaking or chemically damaged, moisture may only be part of the answer.
💬 If You Remember One Thing...
Dry hair doesn't always need a stronger treatment. Sometimes it simply needs more moisture.
💪 When Your Hair Needs Strength
Protein & Filler Treatments
Here's where things get a little more interesting.
Hair can feel soft and still be weak.
If you've coloured, lightened or heat-styled your hair regularly, you may eventually notice that it doesn't feel as resilient as it used to. It may snap more easily or feel unusually stretchy when wet. That's when strengthening treatments can be useful.
Nashi Filler Therapy sits in this part of our treatment menu, alongside the more repair-focused options. Protein treatments are not really about making your hair "harder." They're about helping weakened hair feel stronger and more conditioned.
But there's a bit of a trap here.
More protein isn't automatically better.
Hair needs balance. If your hair is already feeling coarse or stiff, adding more strengthening isn't necessarily what it needs. This is one reason we prefer looking at the actual condition of your hair rather than simply recommending a treatment because the word "protein" sounds good.
💬 If You Remember One Thing...
Strong hair still needs balance. Sometimes your hair needs protein; sometimes it needs moisture—and sometimes it needs both.
🛡️ When Your Hair Has Been Through a Lot
Repair & Bond Building
Some hair has a history.
Years of colouring. Bleaching. Heat styling. Chemical services. Sometimes all of the above. Eventually, the effects start to show.
Hair becomes brittle, loses its elasticity, breaks more easily and just doesn't behave the way it used to. This is where repair treatments come in.
You may have heard the phrase bond repair being used more and more. Without getting overly technical, the idea is that the internal structure of the hair can be weakened by chemical and physical stress, and certain professional treatments are designed to help strengthen and protect it.
At GlamSquad, this includes Olaplex Pro Treatment and Redken Acidic Bond Repair.
These are particularly relevant when the hair has been through colouring, chemical services or regular heat styling. And this is one situation where we sometimes have to resist the temptation to chase an immediate cosmetic result. If damaged hair is screaming for repair, making it look temporarily smoother isn't necessarily the best first move.
Sometimes you have to fix the foundation before worrying about the finish.
💬 If You Remember One Thing...
When hair has been through a lot, repair should come before chasing the perfect finish.
✨ When You Want Smoother, Easier Hair
Smoothing & Manageability Treatments
Now we come to one of the biggest reasons people walk into a salon:
"I just want my hair to behave."
We completely understand. Maybe your hair isn't particularly damaged. It's just frizzy, puffy, difficult to style and even more difficult when Chennai decides to turn the humidity up.
This is where smoothing treatments come in.
Our menu includes Smoothing, Keratin, Kera Smooth and Nanoplastia, as well as more intensive straightening and rebonding services.
These treatments aren't all the same, and they shouldn't be treated as interchangeable.
Some are aimed at reducing frizz and improving manageability. Others are designed to create a much straighter result. That's an important distinction.
If you love your natural texture but simply want less frizz, you may want something very different from someone who wants a straighter, more uniform finish. And there's another distinction worth remembering:
Smoothing isn't the same as repair.
A treatment can make hair look beautifully smooth without being the treatment your damaged hair needs most. That's why we look at the condition of the hair as well as the result you're hoping to achieve.
💬 If You Remember One Thing...
The smoothest result isn't always the right result. Choose the finish you want without forgetting the condition of your hair.
🌱 When the Problem Starts at the Scalp
Scalp Care & Revitalise
We spend a lot of time talking about hair.
But hair starts at the scalp, and sometimes that's where the real problem is. An oily scalp, flakes, dryness, itching or build-up needs a different approach from dry ends or frizz.
Our current scalp-care menu includes SP Anti-Dandruff Treatment, SP Hair Loss Treatment, Aveda Organic Scalp Ritual and Aveda Botanical Ritual, as well as express scalp options.
These treatments are less about making the lengths of your hair instantly glossy and more about giving the scalp the attention it needs.
And a small word of caution here.
If you're experiencing persistent or significant hair loss, a salon treatment shouldn't be presented as a cure. Hair loss can have many causes, and it's worth getting the underlying issue properly assessed. We'd much rather be honest about that than promise something a salon treatment can't deliver.
💬 If You Remember One Thing...
Beautiful hair starts at the scalp. Sometimes looking after your hair means starting at the roots, not the ends.
🎨 What About Coloured Hair?
If you colour your hair, you don't automatically need a completely separate category of treatment.
What you need depends on what you've done to the hair.
A simple colour service and repeated bleaching are two very different things. One person may mainly need moisture after colouring. Another may need serious repair after lightening. Someone else may simply want to keep their hair looking smooth and shiny between colour appointments.
So instead of asking:
"What's the best treatment for coloured hair?"
we'd ask:
"What has your hair been through?"
That question tells us much more. And this is where the different treatment families we've just discussed start to overlap.
💬 If You Remember One Thing...
Coloured hair doesn't have one set of needs. The right treatment depends on what you've done to it and how it's feeling now.
🧩 Sometimes Your Hair Needs More Than One Thing
Here's something we see all the time.
A client comes in saying:
"My hair is dry."
But when we look at it properly, there's more going on. It's dry and coloured. Or weak and frizzy. Or damaged through the lengths while the scalp is oily.
Hair doesn't always fit neatly into one box. That's perfectly normal. It's also why we don't want this guide to leave you thinking:
"I'm a Moisture person."
You aren't. Your hair can change, and what it needs can change with it. A treatment that made perfect sense six months ago may not be the right choice today.
That's one of the reasons a proper consultation is useful before committing to a more intensive treatment.
💬 If You Remember One Thing...
Your hair doesn't have to fit into one box. Its needs can change—and your treatment should change with them.
☕ Before You Go...
So now you've met the main treatment families.
You know the difference between moisture, strength, repair, smoothing and scalp care, and you've seen where many of the treatments on our menu fit.
But there's still one question left.
Probably the most useful one of all:
"Okay... but which one should I actually choose?"
That's what we'll tackle in Part 3. We'll take the common situations we hear every day—dry hair, frizz, breakage, coloured hair, scalp problems and more—and work out what kind of treatment might make sense.
We'll also talk about how often you really need treatments, whether you can combine them, and when doing nothing for a while might actually be the better choice. Because understanding the menu is one thing.
Knowing what belongs on your hair is another.
